Rapper M.anifest says using votes to determine winners at music awards schemes “causes the possibilty of rigging.”
M. Dot was speaking on the furore surrounding Patapaa losing out on the ‘Song of the Year‘ award to Fancy Gadam at the 2018 Ghana Music Awards.
CharterHouse, organizers of the awards have defended the decision, saying Gadam won the category because he had more votes than his competition.
The ‘Me Ne Woa’ rapper, however is of the opinion that votes deciding who wins what is flawed.
“I get the idea behind the voting… they are trying to kind of make it about the people. Technically the ‘Most Popular Song’ people should be willing to support it but I think in the environment that we are in, that always causes the possibilty of rigging,” explained M.anifest to Andy Dosty on Hitz FM.
“Means if i have money and i want to put 10, ooo … there is a potential flaw where there is… It becomes who can get votes, and it becomes elections. And we know like any other elections in Africa, money counts I would change it but i do understand the thinking behind it.”
