Cardi B takes the crown. The Bronx rapper has earned her first No. 1 record, as “Bodak Yellow (Making Moves)” takes the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The accomplishment comes one week after reports had the undeniable smash-hit projected to take the top spot. Cardi B also makes history, as “Bodak Yellow” is the first solo female rap single to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” did so in 1998.
The record, inspired by Kodak Black’s “Flockin,” also topped the Streaming Songs chart with 40.8 million domestic streams. Kodak was recently added to the official remix of “Bodak Yellow,” released one week ago. The Hot 100 feat continues Cardi’s breakout year after transitioning from a reality tv star to an artist.
J. Cole, who returned to Twitter over the weekend, recently praised the female MC for her run in 2017. “Also Cardi b I seen your breakfast club interview, loved it. Don’t put all that pressure on your album. You already won. Just drop & repeat,” said Cole. Cardi’s debut album is expected later this year via Atlantic Records.
