Mother of Heirs is the first project coming out from Black Girls Glow, a platform launched this year by Poetra Asantewa and Dzyadzorm, two of the most prominent female artists in Ghana, who started their careers as spoken word poets but are now much more.
‘BGG is a concept that aims to raise the profile of female artists locally, regionally and globally by highlighting and showcasing the brilliant and talented young female artists making waves in the Ghanaian entertainment industry. Black Girls Glow is based on the notion that musical collaboration is a uniquely powerful way to connect people across political and cultural barriers.’ – Poetra Asantewa.
For the first output, with no funds or sponsors, Poetra and Dzyadzorm have been able to put together, aside themselves, Adomaa, Cina Soul, Fu and Ria Boss and coordinate a roster of excellent producers from in and outside Ghana. The track list is a road trip through femininity and creation, a declaration of independence in the Ghanaian artistic scene: no definition, no music genre, no categorisation. Just art.
12 songs where melody, rap, rhythm, poetry and harmony work together drawing influence from Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul, Blues, Spoken Word and R&B, to create a fusion of genres in perfect balance.
Mother of Heirs is to be released today for free on Soundcloud and will be available on other digital stores in subsequent weeks.
