Spoken Word Artiste Poetra Asantewa has been announced as a 2016 OneBeat Fellow.
OneBeat is an international cultural exchange that celebrates the transformative power of the arts through the creation of original, inventive music, and people-to-people diplomacy.
She would join 24 other people from around the world in the United States for a month to “collaboratively write, produce, and perform original music, and develop strategies for arts-based social engagement.” organizers say.
Her art tackles topics including feminism, education standards, and mental health awareness/depression.
In October 2015, she released her debut EP Motherfuckitude: The Naked Ones to great reviews. The spoken word project fused contemporary poetry with neo-soul and jazz, and was recorded and produced by musician, Kyekyeku.
Born Ama Asantewa Diaka, she is also an entrepreneur and founder of Alikoto Clothing and Yobbings. Diaka also founded Love Rocks, a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to helping young students learn outside of the box.
